The legacy of small businesses
Block (formerly Square) helps millions of sellers run their business—from secure credit card processing to point of sale solutions. As part of their market insights initiatives, Square hired Belmondo to develop a video series that would tell the story of second and third-generation business owners in America. We traveled across five states, visiting all kinds of family shops— from farms to hair salons and bakeries.
We produced a single 20-minute video, entitled "Legacy,” as well as a dozen smaller vignettes used for distribution purposes. The journey across America’s heartland and the experience of meeting these entrepreneurs was unforgettable.
After we wrapped work on the shoot, we explored ways to create a physical installation that would continue the story. Our solution: a series of 12 life-size kiosks that featured portraits of the customers, their family histories, and their legacy businesses.
